In Girl Scouts, it's not just what girls do but how. This makes Girl Scouts unique, drive the quality of girls' experiences, and most importantly, promote fun and friendship.
The essence of the Girl Scout experience is in the activities girls do, and the growth they experience as a result. But behind every activity there is a lot of thought and planning. Girl Scouts Program activities are organized around the Girl Scout three keys to Leadership- Discover, Connect, and Take Action.
- Discover: Girls understand themselves and their values and use their knowledge and skills to explore the world.
- Connect: Girls care about, inspire, and team with others locally and globally.
- Take Action: Girls act to make the world a better place.
In Girl Scouting, Discover + Connect + Take Action= Leadership. All Girl Scout experiences are intentionally designed to tie to one or more of the 15 national leadership outcomes, or benefits, categorized under the three keys to leadership.

Please click on the link below to see how Brownies from Kalispell are reaching out to other girls in far off Iran!
In Late April, Erica Wirtala, Troop Mother for Brownie troop 3385 of Kalispell, Montana, encouraged the troop members to create a scrap book telling about their interests, and where they lived. The book needed to be self-explanatory, so that children in other countries, who might not know English, could look at it and learn about other children like them in Western Montana.

The new guidelines for the highest awards have been released! The steps to earning the highest awards are rooted in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and the three keys to leadership: girls discover themselves and their values and explore the world, connect with others locally and globally, and take action to make the world a better place. Learn more about the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
Highest Awards, part of the "Older Girl Training," explains the process for the Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards as well as other recognitions that may be earned this year. As girls progress through the levels of Girl Scouts, their awards signify attaining new and highest level of knowledge and skills, and ultimately a deeper understanding of what it means to be a leader who makes a difference in the world.
Girls can choose to use either the summer 2009 Girl Scout award guidelines or the previous guidelines to earn the award during the two-year transition period (summer 2009 through September 2011). Below are some tools and resources that will assist you with the new process for earning the highest awards. You may also learn more about the highest awards at the following site.
