Welcome to another Journey in a Day with Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming. This year's councilwide event explores how Girl Scouts can conduct meaningful science in the Think Like a Citizen Scientist Journey.
What is Citizen Science? Citizen science is a way for everyday people to help scientists do research. When scientists need a lot of data, they ask for the public’s help. All across Montana and Wyoming, Girl Scouts will collect data and then send the data to scientists. The scientists will analyze our data and use it to better understand their research questions.
What will Girl Scouts learn on this Journey?
Girl Scouts will play games, create crafts, record in scientific journals, and experiment with the scientific method. After a bit of practice, they will conduct citizen science observations and send the information to real-life scientists.
Participants will receive their Journey Award and Take Action badge. They will also take home a custom science journal, new tools and crafts, and fun resources to continue their scientific explorations. GSMW will serve a light snack during the event.
Girl Scouts need adult help during this program! If you are willing to volunteer and download a citizen science app on your phone or tablet, we want your help! Before the program, staff will reach-out to registered member adults with information on how to download the SciStarter app. For more information on GSUSA's partnership with SciStarter, visit this link.
Registration for this event is $18 per girl and closes on October 15th. After October 15th, your program registration is non-refundable.
