Join Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts from all across GSMW on this
exciting four-day, four-night backpacking adventure exploring the
secluded Gros Ventre Wilderness of Northwest Wyoming! Girl Scouts of
Montana & Wyoming will provide all group gear for this trip.
Participants do NOT need to have their own gear to join this
trip!
Girls will get to know themselves as they earn the
Senior and Ambassador Trail Adventure and First Aid badges and
complete an on-trail Wilderness First Aid Class. Each adventure you
take into the wild is uniquely yours. On this adventure, participants
will encounter some of the amazing sights in the remote and
less-traveled Gros Ventre Mountain Range. Trying something new,
meeting new people, and exploring a new place will teach you something
about yourself you didn’t know before.
There will be a
pre-trip meeting to prepare Girl Scouts for the adventure. There, we
will discuss gear, pre-trip planning, and transportation
details.
Girls will need to arrive during the late
afternoon/evening on Wednesday August 9th. The evening will be spent
getting to know each other, digging through and making any adjustments
to our packs, adding group gear to the mix and completing the CPR
portion of the Wilderness First Aid Course that we will be completing
on trail.
The first morning, we will head out on the trail as we will depart
to the Gros Ventre Wilderness on foot from GSMW's own Camp Open Door.
As we hike to our campsite for the night, the scenery will take your
breath away and we'll stop often to take photographs, eat snacks, and
rest.
Our second and third mornings will include
breaking down camp, hitting the trail and honing some of our trail
skills. Again, we will take our time and arrive at our next campsite
after enjoying a day of beautiful views and new friendships. We will
learn new things about nature along the way.
Our last
morning we will break camp for the final time, and head back to our
trailhead. At the end, we will celebrate all we have accomplished! We
will plan to return to Camp Open Door by early to mid-afternoon.
*Our total mileage for this four day trip will be 18-19 miles,
including elevation gain/losses of 6400-6500 ft. The elevation is
balanced well with mileage producing shorter mileage days when there
are greater elevation gains. While we do want individuals of
varying abilities to feel comfortable on this trip, this trip should
be approached as a physical challenge and will require preparation,
training, and exercising. The ultimate goal of this trip is to
make new friends, learn about backpacking and Wilderness First Aid,
and connect with nature.
GEAR INFO
Girl Scouts
will provide all group equipment (tents, stoves, fuel, water filters,
medical, and safety equipment), breakfast/dinner food, beverages,
first-aid support, and guiding. We are able to accommodate most
allergies and dietary restrictions. Please let us know if you have any
food preferences or restrictions upon registering. Girls will learn
about trail food ahead of time and coordinate to bring their own lunch
and snack foods.
Individual gear will be the
responsibility of each attending camper, each girl will be provided
with a list of items that they need to bring (backpack, sleeping bag,
pad, hiking boots, clothing, sunglasses, flashlight, water bottles,
etc). We will provide a list of potential rental sources, but girls
are encouraged to bring their own items if they are more familiar with
them. We recommend a 65 liter backpack and a sleeping bag with a
minimum temperature rating of 20-degrees.
Girls can become members just to attend this trip! Reach out for more info: amyi@gsmw.org
Registration for this event is $275 per girl and closes on July 24th. After July 24th, your program registration is non-refundable.
