From the sweeping plains to the rolling hills and mountains, into the bustling cities of our great council, this June, Girl Scouts, their friends, and their families will gather to create positive change in their communities during our annual Community Day events. This year’s events will take place over one week starting on National Trails Day, June 1st, and ending on June 8th. Community Day events are open to Girl Scouts of all ages, their friends, and their families.
Participants will meet at Camp Open Door to get camp ready for the summer camp season and to connect with their Girl Scout community. There will be a variety of camp projects suitable for anyone willing to help. Please let us know if you have any specific skills that would be helpful.
Participants will work on projects around camp, and once work projects are complete, everyone will enjoy a campfire-cooked dinner as a thank you for all the help! All participants will get a custom GSMW Community Day sticker. Girl Scouts will also receive a fun patch.
Non-Girl Scout friends, siblings, and tagalongs are welcome to participate. Adult registrants will serve as chaperones during the program. At all times, children must be accompanied by an adult. Troops must follow required adult-to-girl ratios.
Troops and families are invited to camp-out after the workday. For adults to stay for the camp-out, they must be registered GSMW volunteers with cleared criminal background checks. Email customercare@gsmw.org to find out how to register as a volunteer. Once your group decides to camp out, please email melissaw@gsmw.org.
In conjunction with the work day, GSMW staff will offer an Outdoor Cookout Training for adult volunteers. Adults may add the Outdoor Cookout Training to their registration for $6. Before the event, training participants will need to complete GSMW's online Outdoor Trainings in gsLearn. The online trainings prepare volunteers for troop hikes and basic outdoor adventures The Outdoor Cookout Training is required to lead outdoor cookouts and camp outs. Training participants will learn outdoor cooking skills while preparing dinner for the whole Community Day work crew!
If our GSMW-sponsored events don’t work with your group’s schedule, use the Community Day Independent Group Form to share your project overview and participant numbers and to purchase patches and stickers.
Registration for this event is $5 per girl and closes on May 19th. After May 19th, your program registration is non-refundable.
