Join us for an unforgettable 2-day, 1-night backpacking adventure with Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts from across GSMW!
We’ll be exploring the beautiful Vedauwoo area of the Medicine Bow National Forest in Southeastern Wyoming. Whether you're an experienced adventurer eager to introduce your girl to backpacking or completely new to the experience yourself, this trip is perfect for you and your Girl Scout! You don’t need to own all your gear to join, though there will be a required gear list to help you prepare.
This trip is not just about hiking – it’s about discovering yourself! As girls take on new challenges, they will earn their Junior Eco-Camper and Cadette Eco-Trekker and First Aid badges. You’ll meet new friends, try something new, and experience the great outdoors in ways you never have before – all while learning more about yourself and your abilities.
Pre-trip Preparation:
We’ll kick things off with a
pre-trip meeting where Scouts and registered adults can prepare for
the adventure ahead. We’ll go over gear, discuss any planning needed,
and answer any questions. These meetings will be scheduled
individually with each girl and adult, either in person or virtually.
Day 1:
Arrive on the morning of Day 1 ready to learn how
to pack your backpack and get fitted with the right gear. After
dividing up equipment, we’ll set off for the Medicine Bow National
Forest. Our hike will be a short, easy journey to the campsite, giving
us plenty of time to practice backpacking skills along the way. We’ll
take breaks to enjoy nature, snap some photos, and refuel with snacks.
The afternoon will be spent learning essential camp skills, including
basic First Aid. All participants can even earn an American Red Cross
First Aid certification by adding it to their registration.
Day 2:
After breaking down camp, we’ll hit the trail
again to fine-tune our hiking skills and explore more of the stunning
forest. With new friendships formed and beautiful views ahead, we’ll
wrap up our adventure by hiking back to the trailhead. We’ll return to
Laramie by mid to late afternoon, where girls and adults will return
their gear and say “see you later” after an amazing trip!
Important Info for Adults:
Adults who join the trip
should be ready to actively participate in the experience. If you have
questions or need more details, feel free to reach out to Amy at Amyi@gsmw.org.
Gear Details:
GSMW will provide all group gear (tents,
stoves, fuel, water filters, safety equipment), as well as breakfast,
dinner, and beverages. We’re happy to accommodate most allergies and
dietary restrictions – just let us know when you register. Girls will
coordinate their own lunches and snacks, with guidance on
trail-friendly food options.
Every participant, both girls and adults, will receive a gear list to ensure they’re prepared. If you’re missing anything, we’ll do our best to help you find what you need.
