Mystery Owl Pellet Art - Virtual (Grades 4-12)

No bones about it! This is possibly the most unique virtual program GSMW has offered. Montana Natural History Center naturalist educators will show our Girl Scouts how to turn mouse bones, dissected from owl pellets (which are not poop), into fine art.

Our guest naturalist educator will lead Girl Scouts through an exploration of owl digestion and the production of owl pellets.  Then, participants will roll up their sleeves to dissect their owl pellets, discovering the remnants of the owl's meals.

The pellets will likely contain hair and bones of mice.  The pellets don't smell, and they are sanitized.  Discover what's in your pellet, identify the mysterious parts, and then put them back together in a wondrous, and possibly eerie, piece of skeletal art.  After the program, finish your artwork and consider framing it as a keepsake or gift.

GSMW will send participants a kit including an owl pellet, dissection tools, and crafting supplies.  You will also receive a printable owl pellet identification chart.

This program is only open to registered members of the Montana and Wyoming Girl Scout council.  Groups registering together will receive their kits altogether at the primary registrant's shipping address.

Registration for this event is $30 per girl and closes on March 23rd. After March 23rd, your program registration is non-refundable.
