Calling all Apprentice Guides! Join us as mentors on this exciting backpacking adventure!

This is your chance to take on a leadership role and help guide the next generation of adventurers while earning valuable experience and skills. As an Apprentice Guide, you’ll be working alongside experienced adult leaders to support Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts during their 2-day, 1-night backpacking trip in the beautiful Vedauwoo area of the Medicine Bow National Forest.

Your Role:
You’ll assist with everything from setting up camp and leading skill-building activities to helping with gear organization and offering guidance along the trail. Whether it’s helping Scouts learn essential camp skills or encouraging them as they conquer the trail, you’ll play an important part in making the trip a success. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your leadership, teamwork, and outdoor skills while making lasting memories!

What You’ll Gain:

  • Leadership and mentoring experience
  • Opportunity to earn service hours and badges
  • The satisfaction of helping others learn and grow in the outdoors
  • Hands-on outdoor skills, including camp setup, hiking, and first aid

Pre-trip Prep:
You’ll have a chance to meet with the adult leaders beforehand to discuss your responsibilities, review the itinerary, and get ready for the adventure ahead. The pre-trip meeting will also cover packing lists, camp skills, and any specific guidance you’ll need to help out during the trip.

Be Part of Something Special:
By joining as an Apprentice Guide, you’ll not only help make the backpacking experience unforgettable for others, but you’ll also get to take part in an adventure filled with new friendships, beautiful views, and outdoor fun. Plus, you’ll earn valuable experience that will help you as you continue your journey as a leader in Girl Scouts.

Every participant will receive a gear list to ensure they’re prepared. If you’re missing anything, we’ll do our best to help you find what you need.

GOALS Cornerstone: This is a day trip for girls of all ages to begin learning outdoor skills, leadership skills and enjoy adventure together in the great outdoors!

GOALS Trailhead: This trip is a single night trip designed for Junior and Cadette girls (4th-8th grade) that do not have any backpacking or backcountry experience.  Each camper must be accompanied by an adult companion who is a registered Girl Scout volunteer with an approved background check. Tent arrangements can accommodate girls attending with a family or non-family member. Girls will learn backpacking and backcountry basics and gain confidence with their skills!
