Join Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts from all across GSMW on this exciting 2Day/1Night backpacking adventure in the Vedauwoo area of the Medicine Bow National Forest of Southeastern Wyoming! You do NOT need to have all of your own gear, but you DO need an adult to join this trip.

Girls will get to know themselves on a different level as they earn their Junior Camper and Cadette Primitive Camper Badges. Trying something new, meeting new people, or exploring a new place will teach you something about yourself you didn’t know before.

There will be a pre-trip meeting to prepare the Scouts and any registered adults for the adventure. This will be when we discuss individual Scout gear lists and any planning that girls need to do ahead of time. These meetings will be scheduled individually with each girl/adult.

Girls and adults will arrive the morning of day 1 ready to learn about their gear and how to pack their backpack. We will fit backpacks, divide up gear and pack their packs. We will depart  to the Medicine Bow National Forest where we’ll begin our journey. We will hike a short distance to our campsite, our goal is to become acquainted with the skills needed for a backpack trip. We will stop often to take photographs, eat snacks and rest along the way. The rest of the day we will spend learning camp skills.

Our second day will include breaking down camp, hitting the trail and honing some of our trail skills. We will take our time and arrive at the trailhead after enjoying a day of beautiful views and new friendships. We will learn new things about nature along the way. We will plan to return to Laramie by mid/late-afternoon. After turning in gear we will say “see ya later.”

GEAR INFO

GSMW will provide all group equipment (tents, stoves, fuel, water filters, medical and safety equipment), breakfast/dinner food, beverages, first-aid support, and guiding. Girls will learn about some trail food ahead of time and coordinate to bring their own lunch/snack foods.

Each girl and adult attending this trip will have a list of items that they need to bring, we will do our best to help you find anything you may be missing!

To ensure a positive and safe experience for everyone, instructors may determine that this trip is not the right fit for a participant if physical, medical, behavioral, skill level or other concerns could impact their safety or the group dynamic.
