Join GSMW for a two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course designed to build confidence and lifesaving skills for outdoor adventures. This is a two-day hands-on class, led by a certified instructor. The course prepares participants to recognize, assess, and manage medical emergencies when professional help is delayed or unavailable.
Course topics include:
- Patient assessment and
decision-making in remote settings
- Managing common wilderness
injuries such as fractures, sprains, and dislocations

Treating environmental emergencies including hypothermia, heat
illness, and dehydration
- Wound care, bleeding control, and
infection prevention
- Recognition and management of medical
emergencies
- Evacuation planning and when/how to seek outside
help
- Leadership, teamwork, and communication during emergencies
Participants will leave with practical skills, increased confidence, and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies when help is far away.
Who can attend:
- Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 (certification
for age 14 & up)
- Girl Scout volunteers

Non-members may inquire about registration; approval is required
Participants who successfully complete the course will earn their Wilderness First Aid certification, an essential credential for outdoor leadership, camping, and high-adventure activities.
Location & Lodging:
The course will be held at Hynds
Lodge. Overnight lodging is optional but not required.
- Breakfast and lunch will be provided both days
- Dinner
is on your own for those staying overnight
Overnight Options:
Overnight accommodations will be
discussed individually with each participant. Limited space is
available inside the lodge, and tent camping outdoors is also an
option. Tents, sleeping pads, and select camping gear are available
upon request. Staying overnight is optional; participants may also
choose to attend the course during the day only.
Facilities at Hynds Lodge include:
- Large indoor
fireplace
- Commercial gas kitchen stove and oven

Note: There is no indoor running water.
Outdoor pit toilets are available.

Registered Girl Scouts will earn their First Aid badge.
